Program Description:
Does your organization employ assistants or analysts to support investment professionals? Would your support staff be more productive and useful if investment professionals taught them the "Fundamentals of Investing?" CFA Society of Chicago is pleased to announce our annual "Fundamentals of Investing" course. The course will run for six consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 13. Sept. 13: Stocks and Equity Markets

Presenter Biographies:

Suzanne Bernard, CFA is a Principal at Hewitt EnnisKnupp, the nation's largest investment consulting firm which she joined in 1988. Ms. Bernard serves as the primary consultant and manages consulting assignments for a number of retainer and project clients. She is a National Practice Are Leader for the alternative asset consulting practice, overseeing more than $75 billion in assets and has also written research papers on issues facing institutional investors, such as using hedge funds in an investment program, the role of real estate, benchmarking and defined contribution plan issues. Ms. Bernard holds a B.S. degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago. She is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Chicago. In addition, she holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.

Michael S. Falk, CFA, is the founder of Michael S. Falk Asset Consulting. The practice was founded on the singular principal of providing value-added asset consulting. Aside from his asset consulting work, Mr. Falk is part of the CFA Institute's Speaker Retainer Program, a contributing member of the PDDARI group within the Financial Management Association (FMA), the Vice Chair of the Profit Sharing 401(k) Council of America's Investment Committee, and teaches as an adjunct professor at DePaul University in their Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Certificate Program as well as on behalf of the CFA Society of Chicago.

Mr. Falk holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois, and is also a CFA Charterholder, a member of the CFA Institute, and holds the Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) designation.

Michele Gambera, CFA, is Executive Director and Head of Quantitative Analysis for UBS Global Investment Solutions. In this role, he leads the team developing and maintaining quantitative models for the portfolio management teams in the Asset Allocation & Currency areas of Global Investment Solutions. Mr. Gambera joined UBS Global Asset Management in 2010 from Ibbotson Associates, Morningstar's asset allocation consultancy, where he had been Senior Research Consultant and Chief Economist since 2006. During his nine years with Morningstar, he was also a Senior Quantitative Analyst and Chief Economist. Prior to joining Morningstar, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for two years as an Economist in the Supervision and Regulation division.

In addition to his extensive economic and quantitative analysis experience, Mr. Gambera has a strong academic background and has held various teaching roles, most recently on the Masters of Finance program at Illinois Institute of Technology. He is often quoted by the press including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.

Dr. Gambera holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Trento in Italy, a Masters degree and a Ph.D. in Economics from Pennsylvania State University and he is also a CFA Charterholder.

Ann Logue, CFA, is a freelance writer, consulting analyst, and instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the author of Hedge Funds for Dummies (Wiley, 2006), and has also written for Barron's, The New York Times, Newsweek Japan and Compliance Week, among other publications. Her current career follows 12 years' of experience as an investment analyst.

Ms. Logue holds a B.A. from Northwestern University, an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Christopher T. Vincent, CFA, is a Principal at William Blair & Company, where he heads the Fixed Income Group within the Investment Management division. He joined the firm in June 2002 as a fixed-income portfolio manager. Mr. Vincent began his institutional investment career in 1983, and was previously a managing director/senior fixed-income portfolio manager with Zurich Scudder Investments for 14 years. Before that, he was with Ralston Purina Company for five years in the treasury department in the plan sponsor role, where he was responsible for fixed-income investments for the company's benefit plans.

Mr. Vincent is a former Board member of the CFA Society of Chicago. He holds a B.S.B.A. from the University of Missouri, an M.B.A. from Saint Louis University, and is a CFA Charterholder.
