Diane Swonk is the Director of Economics/Chief Economist and a Senior Vice President for BANK ONE CORPORATION in Chicago. Diane started her career with the legacy First Chicago Corporation in 1985. She quickly moved up the ranks, proving herself as a regional economist with her forecast for a renaissance in the Industrial Midwest just one year later. She also designed the Bank's regional model, has published several nationally acclaimed studies, and currently manages the Bank's Corporate Economics Group. This April, she will be serving as a Clinical Professor at DePaul University’s highly-rated evening MBA program.
Diane is called upon as an economic expert by policymakers from coast to coast and the White House. She is also among the most quoted on the economy in the financial press. You have regularly seen Diane on the major news networks, CNN, CNBC, and PBS. You have read her commentary in the financial pages of The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, and news magazines such as Business Week. Her name shows up so often that Chicago magazine commented that "her name…seems the very heartbeat of the business pages."
Diane has served on several boards and currently serves on the Board of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), the Finance Committee for the Executive Club of Chicago, and is a director of the Illinois Economic Education Association. She is a past President of NABE, a title that Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan, and several Federal Reserve Presidents have also shared. Diane was the youngest to serve as President in the association's history and was the first to receive special recognition for her efforts to improve the quality of economic statistics during her tenure.
Diane has earned many awards over her career. She was recently declared the “Business Leader of the Year” by the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago. She was also named a Fellow of NABE, for her outstanding contributions to the field of Business Economics. Diane has been listed as one of the Wall Street Journal's "Star Forecasters," and was named the "Top Woman in Finance in Chicago" by Today’s Chicago Woman.
