Joseph Scoby is the Head of Magnetar's Quantitative Investments Group which includes Alternative Risk Premia and Tactical Trading. He is also a member of the firm's Management and Investment Committees. Scoby has nearly 30 years of market experience in investment and risk management.
Prior to joining Magnetar, Scoby was most recently the CEO of Achievement Asset Management. Before that he was the Head of Alternative and Quantitative Investment at UBS Global Asset Management and the founder and CIO for UBS O'Connor's funds for 10 years. As a member of the UBS Group Executive Board and Group Chief Risk Officer he helped steer the bank through the 2008 financial crisis. In four years Scoby completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and a Master of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.
He is involved in several community organizations including the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board, the Ann and Robert Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago Board, the Archdiocese of Chicago Finance Council, the Accelerate Institute and World Business Chicago's FinTech Council.
